Youth News – February

February 4, 2007

It’s a new year, and I have the expectation of new and continued growth of the youth. Youth, I will be holding you accountable as you strive for Christian perfection.

Let me encourage you to ponder what the Bible says in Ephesians 4:29-32: Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption. Put away from you all bitterness and wrathand anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.

Remember, we are in the “Build Them Up Business, not the Tear Them Down Business.” Youth, you’ve done great in this the last couple of weeks. Keep it up!

Thanks to everyone who supported us on our Resurrection Trip. We had 24 youth, 8 adults, and 1 toddler attend. There were many great things that happened including the youth deciding that they wanted to put their faith into action by supporting another child through World Vision. We are already supporting Maria in the Dominican Republic and plan to add a boy. The youth have donated $120 since Resurrection to support this mission. Thanks to everyone who worked and who supported our January car wash. We raised $400 to put toward the mission trip this summer.

We will have our next car wash on February 24 from 1-3 pm.

The church-wide mission trip is scheduled for June 17-23, and we will go to Marion, VA to work with Project Crossroads (a Holston Conference ministry) on repair projects to homes in need. We will be leaving at 7 AM Saturday February 3 to go ski at Wolf Laurel, NC and will head back home Sunday after attending church at Munsey Memorial UMC in Johnson City. Youth Academy is studying worship now, and our project for that class will be to have a youth-led worship service this spring.

We have eight students in Confirmation Class meeting at 5 PM on Wednesday . We will join the rest of the district at Camp Lookout for a Confirmation Retreat on Feb. 16-17.
